The San Diego Freeway (I-405) and the Santa
Ana Freeway (I-5) run north-south through Orange County. South
of Laguna, I-405 merges into I-5 (called the San Diego Freeway
south from this point). Do your best to avoid freeways during
rush hours (6-9 AM and 3:30-6 PM), when they literally can
back up for miles.

When to Go |
|
| |
Almost any time is the right time to go to
Orange County; the climate is mild and pleasant year-round.
There is, however, a rainy season from November through March
(the heaviest downpours are usually in January). Summers are
virtually rainless but usually see the famous Los Angeles
smog at its worst.
Seasons in southern California are not as defined as in other
temperate areas of the world. The Pacific Ocean is the primary
moderating influence. In addition, mountains along the north
and east sides of the Los Angeles coastal basin act as buffers
against the extreme summer heat and winter cold of the desert
and plateau regions.
Mild sea breezes and winds from the interior can mix to produce
a variety of weather conditions; an unusual aspect of the
Orange County climate is the pronounced difference in temperature,
humidity, cloudiness, fog, rain, and sunshine over short distances.
The following are average daily maximum and minimum temperatures
for Orange County:
December-March 44-66 deg. F (7-19 deg. C); April-June 51-71
deg. F (11-22 deg. C); July-September 60-75 deg. F (16-24
deg. C); October-November 48-73 deg. F (9-23 deg. C).
