Another interesting stop at
the Dana Point is the museum. It is recognized by its "Lighthouse"
projecting out from its rooftop and also the cannon taken
from the Spanish Galleon. Situated between the violet lantern
and the amber streets it is the head quarter of the Californian
ship that sails between north and south California the whole
year round. It also offers day sailing programs to the school
children and is open to the public for the sails on weekends
whenever it makes a stop at Dana Point. Even if the ship is
not there one can still view the museum dedicated to the history
of the sailing. The collections include ship models, sailing
art, artifacts salvaged from shipwrecks, antiques, and displays
about sailing life from the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Built in 1915, this home belonged
to Walter Muchenthaler. It exhibits ornate fireplaces, circular
bronze and hardwood staircase. The Italian renaissance Style
Mansion there was donated to the city in 1965 to serve as
a cultural center. The space here is used for many art and
craft exhibits, from classic to contemporary. In 1993, a 238
seat outdoor amphitheater was completed to present theatrical
productions.

Maintained by the CSU graduate student, the museum exhibits
the artifacts that illuminate the department's current archaeological

tools, and weapons, artifacts from African Kingdoms, and themed
exhibits on such areas of research as skeletal biology.
